RILEY, E., TRANSVERSE WOOD FLUTE
Stock #0901-03

PHOTOS

     VERY OLD SIDE BLOWN FLUTE (THIS MAY BE A FLAGEOLET?) MADE BY E. RILEY, NY, NY. THIS IS RARE! HAS THE ADDRESS OF " 279 BROADWAY " STAMPED ON IT AND THE CITY IS STAMPED "N-YORK".

E. RILEY DIED IN 1831 AND THIS ADDRESS IS NOT LISTED IN THE FEW HISTORIC REFERENCES I HAVE FOUND. HE IS USUALLY LISTED AT 29 CHATHAM ST., NY, NY.
IN THAT HIS SONS ALSO MADE INSTRUMENTS, THIS COULD BE MADE UNDER THEIR AUSPICES.

IT SEEMS TO BE DYED BOXWOOD, AND TWO OF THE THREE PIECES WHICH HAD CRACKS ARE NOW RESTORED AS THE ENTIRE FLUTE HAS BEEN RESTORED.

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE OLD FLUTE.
(IT HAS A BLOW HOLE LIKE A FLAGELOET.)
ONE OF THE EARLIEST USA MADE FLUTES WITH A NAME OF A MAKER ON IT.

Beautiful tone also.

PRICE = $ 850.00
comes with modern hard case.
(NOW FULLY RESTORED)
